“In our small office, it used to take anywhere from two to three weeks to get a document to a resident. With Cott Systems, it’s minutes.”

FAIRLEE: At a glance
Founded in 1761, Fairlee is billed as “The town under the cliff” and claims to have the longest ice-skating trail in the United States.

CHALLENGE: Securing the memory of a small town
Fairlee, Vermont, Town Clerk (and historian) Georgette Wolf-Ludwig is responsible for maintaining the archive of a small town that predates the birth of the United States. “Some of our old records were really deteriorating. In 2013, when we had a flood in our office, we knew it was time to ensure that all of our records were secure and would always be accessible to our residents,” she said.

SOLUTION: Backing up a legacy
“Fairlee has just under a thousand year-round residents. As a small town, we are always balancing need and expense. After our flood, we met with Cott Systems and discovered their Resolution 3 hosted solution was a perfect fit for what we needed—and it was actually affordable. So far, we’ve been able to digitally archive everything back to 1945. And even with our tiny staff, we just keep chipping away at digitally preserving our history,” said Georgette.

RESULTS: A perfect partnership
“For a small town like Fairlee, we have to find economical solutions that are also effective,” said Georgette. “One of the things we love about working with Cott Systems is that it truly is a partnership. Their support is fantastic, they are always there to answer questions that we have, and if they don’t know the answer, they’ll get right back to you. For a small office like ours, the support is really second to none.”
